Yes — completely and permanently free. No signup, no credit card, no hidden 'pro' tier. We don't charge because we don't store your data long-term, which means we have nothing to monetise. Free is just how the model works.

Do I need to create an account or install anything?

Nothing at all. Open the page, your inbox is already live. No registration form, no app download, no browser extension. Just close the tab when you're done — there's nothing to log out of.

How do I get a temporary email address?

One is generated for you the moment you open the page. If you want a specific name, hit 'Custom email', type whatever you want before the @, choose a domain from the dropdown, and click Generate. Done in under five seconds.

Can I choose my own email name and domain?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Use the custom email option to pick any username you like. You can also choose from our list of available domains. As long as the combination hasn't been taken by an active session, it's yours.

How long does the email address last?

You'll see a countdown timer next to your address. Once it hits zero, the address stops accepting mail and every message inside it is permanently deleted from our servers. There's no way to recover it after expiry — which is exactly the point.

Is Temp Mail actually private?

Yes. We don't collect your name, phone number, or real email. We don't link an inbox to any person — there are no accounts, no login sessions, no identity. Once the address expires, everything is wiped server-side. There's nothing left to leak, subpoena, or sell.

Do you track me or sell my data?

We don't sell your data or build personal profiles. We use Google AdSense to display ads so the service stays free — AdSense uses cookies to show relevant ads, which you can opt out of via our cookie banner. We don't use cross-site behavioural trackers like Meta Pixel or Google Analytics. We rely on Cloudflare's aggregated edge analytics, which cannot identify individual users.

Can someone else read my emails?

Only if they know your exact temporary address and access it during the active session window — which is the same risk as any shared login. We don't read your emails, don't scan them for advertising, and don't share their content with anyone.

Is Temp Mail GDPR compliant?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Because we collect no personal data tied to your identity, most GDPR obligations don't apply to us in a practical sense. We process only anonymous, session-linked inbox data, which is deleted automatically when the address expires.

What happens to my emails when the address expires?

Everything is permanently deleted from our database the moment the timer runs out — the address, every message, every attachment. Nothing is archived, backed up, or retained. It is gone for good and cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.

How quickly do emails arrive?

Usually within a few seconds of being sent. We use Server-Sent Events (SSE) for real-time delivery — your inbox updates the moment a message arrives without you having to refresh. If an email hasn't appeared after two minutes, the delay is almost certainly on the sender's side.

Can I receive attachments?

Yes. PDFs, images, Word documents, spreadsheets — most common file types arrive just fine and are displayed inside the message view. Very large attachments or unusual file types may not render perfectly, but they'll still arrive.

Can I receive OTP and verification codes?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely — this is one of the most common uses. OTP codes typically arrive within seconds. Just have the inbox open when you trigger the code, and it will appear in real time. No refresh needed.

Will the inbox update automatically or do I need to refresh?

Accepted Answer

It updates automatically. We use a persistent SSE connection to push new messages to your browser the moment they arrive. You don't need to click refresh or do anything — just leave the tab open.

Can I use the same inbox across multiple tabs or devices?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If you open the same temporary address in multiple browser tabs, all of them stay in sync via BroadcastChannel — only one tab maintains the server connection, but all tabs receive new messages instantly. Across different devices, you'd need to manually enter the same address.

Can I send emails from a temp address?

Accepted Answer

No — receive only. This is intentional. Allowing outbound email would make the service trivially abusable for spam. If you need to reply to something, use your real email for that part.

Will every website accept a Temp Mail address?

Accepted Answer

The vast majority will — it functions identically to a regular email address. However, some platforms (certain banks, government portals, and a few major consumer apps) maintain blocklists of known disposable email domains. If a site rejects your address, it's their policy doing that, not a bug in our service.

Is Temp Mail suitable for banking or government services?

Accepted Answer

No, and we'd strongly advise against it. Those services often email important account updates, password resets, and legal notices. Using a temp address that expires means you could lose permanent access to that account. Use your real email for anything that matters.

Can I extend the life of my temporary address?

Accepted Answer

Not currently. Each address has a fixed session window. If you need more time, the best approach is to generate a new address and redo the verification step on whichever service you're signing up for.

What if I accidentally close the tab?

If you open Temp Mail again in the same browser, we restore your last active address from localStorage — so you won't lose your inbox just from closing a tab. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, the address is gone from your view (though it remains active on the server until it expires).

Does Temp Mail work on mobile?

Yes — fully. The interface is responsive and works in any mobile browser on Android or iOS. No app is required. Generate an address, receive your email, close the browser. Same experience as desktop.

Yes. Temp Mail respects your system preference automatically and also lets you toggle between light and dark mode using the button in the top-right corner. Your preference is saved across visits.

The frontend runs on Next.js deployed to Cloudflare Workers for edge performance. Your browser connects via SSE (Server-Sent Events) for real-time email delivery.

Question 25

Why do some emails go to spam or not arrive at all?

Accepted Answer

Email delivery depends on the reputation of the sending server, the content of the message, and how Cloudflare's email routing processes it. In rare cases a message may be filtered before it reaches your inbox. This is outside our control — if something critical hasn't arrived after a couple of minutes, try requesting the code again.
